Kyle Busch continued his dominance of the Nationwide Series by winning the pole for the Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Busch turned a lap of 183.387 mph barely edging out Joey Logano’s lap of 183.362 mph. Tonight’s pole was Busch’s ninth of the season to go along with his ten race wins.
Logano is driving the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford for Penske Racing, a car that is in a tight owner’s points battle with the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing car that Busch drives. The two cars have combined for 21 wins in 29 races this season and is only fitting that they are will start side by side as the green falls at Charlotte on Friday night.
Championship contenders, Sam Hornish Jr and Austin Dillon, who are locked in a tight points battle atop the Nationwide Series standings separated by only eight points, will start from the second row. Hornish will start third and Dillon fourth.
Regan Smith, who led the points for a portion of the season but now sits 35 out of the lead, turned in a lap of 182.205 mph will start fifth. Smith needs Hornish and Dillon to stumble to give him a chance to get back into the championship battle.
Rounding out the top-10 for the Dollar General 300 are: 6th – Alex Bowman, 7th -Trevor Bayne, 8th – Kyle Larson, who will also be making his Sprint Cup debut on Saturday, 9th – Brian Vickers and 10th – Kevin Harvick.
