Brandon McFerran has successful multi-win season

Four feature wins. 12 heat wins. In all, the 2013 season was a successful season for Brandon McFerran.

“I had an awesome year,” he said. “I mean.. I did have a few things go wrong through out the year, but those few things are only going to make me better.”

McFerran proved early in the season that his No. 64 Peter D. Laird, Meisner Construction, Thringco (Bev Thring), East End Car Wash, Roadranger, Absolutewedsite.com, and John J Mcferran & sons trucking Mustang was fast, leading the most laps on his way to finishing second in the May 27th feature at Sunset Speedway.

After coming up short on the win at the end of May, Brandon would start off June in victory lane with a feature victory. He would get the win after taking the lead on lap three, and holding off Warren Paxton and Ben Melenhorst on a late restart. The win came in the form of a hat trick after winning both of his heats once again.

He then riled up three more wins in the next three months, while having top five finishes the other weeks.

There were a couple not-so great finishes along the way, including a mechanical issue one night and a wreck another night, but overall it turned out to be an impressive season for the teenager.

Heading into the “play-off season”, a lot of people expected it to be successful for McFerran. He did have some success, including a seventh place finish in his very first start at Barrie Speedway in their Gary Reynolds Memorial. He capped off the season with a sixth place finish in the Autumn Colours Classic.

“Autumn Colors Classic was a definite highlight of my 2013 season,” he commented. “I didn’t get the win but I managed to fight to a top 6 finish! That’s huge at that event! It honestly felt like a win to finish where I did. There was not a dull moment in that race; I mean right from lap one to lap 50 was an intense race!”

Focus has already shifted to the 2014 season as many teams have started preparing. McFerran is planning to run the full Sunset Speedway schedule once again in the Mini Stock division, hoping to win the championship.

“But I’m gonna have to fight the other 25+ guys and girls off to get it,” he added. “I know the mini stock field at Sunset is no walk in the park; you have 10 guys that can pick up a win on any given night so I’m gonna have to give it my all time best to pick the championship up.

“Also I would love to cross an Autumn colors classic win off the list!”
