“It’s a door-to-door, fender-to-fender, wheel-to-wheel deal,” Petty, who leads all Martinsville winners with 15, said
during a recent visit to Martinsville. “There’s long straightaways and sharp corners. It was always who could handle the best for 500 laps. We used to run up here and people would run out of brakes. They got the brakes better now so they race all the way through the race. From that standpoint it makes it more exciting up here now.
“But again, no matter where you sit in the grandstands, you see what’s happening. It’s right dead in front of you.”
