OSCAAR announced today that they will be running the Inaugural Bruce Gowland Memorial at Sunset Speedway on August 23rd for their Super Late Model series.
Bruce Gowland began racing in the early 1970s and entertained fans both on the local short tracks of Ontario, or at the fairs doing modified truck and tractor pulls. Unfortunately, Bruce lost his battle with cancer last year.
Bruce has left a long lasting legacy on the racing world, stretching from Ontario, all the way down to Florida. Bruce always ran the World Series of Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. NSS honored Bruce this February and will host a memorial race each year in his honour. At NSS in February, Kyle Benjamin won the Inaugural event with defending OSCAAR Champion Brandon Watson finishing third.
On August 23rd, OSCAAR announced that their super late model drivers will have their chance to pay respect to a fellow competitor and friend with their 50 lap feature at Sunset Speedway.
Leading up to the event and the beginning of the OSCAAR season in May, OSCAAR will continue to post updates to their website so make sure to stay tuned to http://www.oscaar.ca for the latest.
