Kurt Busch made the headlines huge when he announced that he’d be doing the IndyCar-NASCAR Memorial Day double. If you missed it, check out the details by clicking here.
So that begs the question – would any of IndyCar’s drivers want to get behind the wheel of a NASCAR stockcar? Two of the drivers who said they’d give it a shot are Scott Dixon and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
2013 IndyCar Champion Scott Dixon got the opportunity to test a stock car, driving Jamie McMurray’s car last year at Talladega for some laps. With that experience in his back pocket, he said that he’d love to have the opportunity to drive a stock car at a short track or road course.
“We have to look at schedules. I think even if the Nationwide side, there’s some races that don’t clash with Mid-Ohio or Road America. I just want to have a go first and see what it’s like,” Dixon commented. “Those guys are very good at what they do, very competitive series. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a go maybe in a Nationwide race. It’s not something we talk about a lot. Sort of a once-a-year thing.”
2012 IndyCar Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay hasn’t got the chance yet, but says he would like to tackle the opportunity as well.
“I would love to try anything. But you have to do it right,” he said on media day. “You can’t just jump in with both feet, expect it to happen in a year or two. Doesn’t work that way.
“I’m up for driving anything as long as it’s the right deal, and you get a fair shot at winning and succeeding.”
