Last year, Donovan Price had a successful season competing on the Legends division across Ontario while raising money for Breast Cancer. However, this year the veteran shifts gears as he will be competing in the Mini Stock division at Peterborough Speedway this summer.
While preparations continue with his mini stock and his brother’s thunder car, Donovan took on the 15 questions.
1. How’d you get started in racing?
I have always liked racing and in grade 6, I was at a racing school with my dad and Scott Goodyear and Ron Fellows where there. I got to shift gears in a Porsche with Scott and went out for a ride in a trans-am with Ron. Growing up, my brother and I always had dirt bikes or field cars and I guess that what got me hooked. When Dan started racing, after his first year, I decided to give oval a try and have been hooked ever since.
2. First racing memory
First racing memory was how excited I was when I bought my first thunder car.
3. If you could be sponsored by any beverage, which would you want to be sponsored by?
If I could be sponsored by any beverage company, it would have to be Rockstar.
4. Story behind your car number
I wasn’t always number 96. My first two yearsm I was 90 and Dan was 09. When kx96 sponsored me, I switched to 96 and I have kept it ever since, and if I go on my roof it still says 96.
5. If you have a nickname, what is it and why? If not, what do you think should be a good nickname?
My nick name is big D. My dad started calling me that when I was a kid and it has stuck with me ever since.
6. If you could race against any NASCAR driver, who and why?
I have a few guys I would race race with – Robby Gordon and Tony Stewart. The reason is they aren’t cocky, both have earned there way into NASCAR and I could learn a lot from both since they can drive pretty much anything.
7. What’s your life like outside of racing? Hobbies?
My life outside of racing isn’t very exciting. I drive transport trucks, play hockey, like fishing and play baseball. I have two boys – Connor (11) and Carter (2); they both keep me really busy as well.
8. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
The animal I would be is a dog because they have the life.
9. Favourite pizza topping
Don’t really have a favourite pizza topping.
10. Dream vacation spot
I have a few – Alaska and Australia.
11. If you were stuck on an island, what would you have to have?
I would need a knife because it is useful for so many different things.
12. Favourite book
Can’t even remember the last book I read.
13. Favourite movie
Not a big movie guy but I like the stupid funny ones.
14. Favourite piece of technology
My iPhone.
15. Sponsors/people you’d like to thank
Thank my mom and dad for all support over the years and my brother Cowboy Dan Price for all the help, as well Speedpro Imaging Oshawa, A&T Mechanical, Yesterday’s Speedways, DW Installation and Renovations, Home Hardware Brooklin and anyone that helps me through the race season and the fans because with out them we would not be racing.
