May 18, 2014. Driver Joey McColm and Canada’s Best Racing Team opened the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racing season this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, ON. McColm described the team’s return to full time competition in the series as “awesome”.
Behind the wheel of the #25 PartSource/Toronto Maple Leafs car this weekend the hard work the team put in over the winter months proved to be worthwhile as McColm clicked off lap times quicker than he’d ever achieved.
McColm would qualify with the second fastest time in his qualifying group, lining up for the Clarington 200 on the inside of row nine. From the drop of the green flag McColm worked to move the #25 PartSource/Toronto Maple Leafs machine toward the front.
“We took it easy at first, we knew we had a strategy to follow and it was working” said McColm.
As competitors began to cycle through pit stops McColm was moving forward and battling with the frontrunners. “It was really cool leading the pack there and we kinda walked away a bit, but we wanted to stick to our strategy. When we made our stop we had four fresh tires and were glued to the bumper of some of the top cars” he stated.
McColm continued to look for opportunities to improve his position but fortunes would change. “We were still saving the car and running some of our best lap times, but unfortunately we had some bad luck and that lead to more bad luck. But at the end of the day we’re thrilled with how well we believe this team and the #25 PartSource/Toronto Maple Leafs car can perform”
The next series event is Saturday June 14th at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee Jonction, Quebec.
