After experiencing success in both the Hurricane Midget and Lucas Oil Midget ranks across Ontario, A.J. Emms is trying out a new ride for 2014 – a four-cylinder modified as part of the Outlaw Modified class. Emms had his first start this past weekend at Sunset Speedway and was quick, picking up a heat win before finishing third in the feature later that night.
Before tackling the 3/8 mile asphalt oval, though, Emms tackled the 15 questions that touch upon racing and life outside of racing.
How did you get started in racing?
My Dad raced Late Model, and Challenger, so I’ve grown up going to the races. Got my first go-kart at six, and have been racing ever since.
First racing memory
Playing around on my Dad’s race car, and my first timing driving a go-kart.
If you could be sponsored by any beverage, who would it be?
Moosehead Beer or Gatorade
Story behind your car number.
My number has always been 14, but when I started driving cars it was taken and 10 was available. Also, my Mom’s birthday is the on the 10th.
If you have a nick name what is it and why. If not, what would a good nick name be for you?
Dont really have a nickname but I guess Apple Juice would be fitting because my initials are A.J
If you could race any NASCAR Driver, who and why?
Kyle Busch, because I feel like he is one of the most skilled drivers in the world right now.
What’s your life like outside of racing? Hobbies?
Fourth year student at Nipissing University, enjoy lifting weights, playing hockey, and boating
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
A dog
