With wet conditions on Saturday and dry conditions on Sunday, Scotty Steele adapted to the track in both scenarios, putting together a pair of third place finishes on the weekend.
On Saturday, the 16-year-old battled back and forth with fellow teenager Sheldon Creed for the lead while sliding through the corners.
“It was basically Sheldon and I back and forth the first eight laps, and then Robby got in the mix and it messed it up. Well, it didn’t mess it up – it made it a lot more fun,” he commented. “It was a close battle all race. I actually clipped the wall a little the last lap and Robby was able to get by me. I was still able to hold on to a podium, which I was very thankful for.”
From a fan’s point-of-view, it was fun to watch as the wet concrete made it real slippery, with the drivers sliding through the corners.
“It was a really slick track,” Steele commented. “On the cement, the truck gets real sideways, slipping all over the place. It was a really fun race. I really enjoyed it.”
Then on the Saturday, Steele would make contact with the truck in front of him on the start, causing heavy front-end damage to the truck – to the point that he couldn’t see till the hood flew off with three laps to go.
“My hood was up for most of the race and I couldn’t see that well,” Steele commented. “It was hard down the backstretch as I just judging by about where the wall was – till it flew off on lap seven.”
Though even with that said, he kept it on track and pulled off another solid performance, finishing third once again.
Now with momentum on his side with three podiums in the last four events, there is no stopping Steele from closing out the season with a win.
Like many others, Steele got his start in go-karts, before moving his way up the racing ranks.
“I started about six or seven years ago in go-karts,” he commented. “Then moved into off-road a little bit. Then last year, I got involved with the Stadium Super Trucks in where we do a lot more asphalt stuff.”
