Erik Jones scores Keystone Light 21 Means 21 Pole Award at Eldora Speedway

He may not have any dirt experience, but Erik Jones proved to be fast on Wednesday evening as he scored the Keystone Light 21 Means 21 Pole Award for the 1-800 Car Crash Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Raceway. Jones would lap the dirt track in 19.913 seconds to score his first career Camping World Truck Series pole award.

His qualifying run didn’t start out well, as Jones spun the truck during his warm-up lap. However, once up to speed, he was good to go.

“It’s tough out there to make a lap,” Jones commented. “It’s unpredictable there. We got into the wall there but hopefully we can get it fixed up for the feature. We just need to get it worked out for me on the track.”

Jones is looking for his second straight victory following the win at Iowa Speedway two weeks ago and the fourth straight for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Mason Mingus would qualify second in his first attempt at Eldora Speedway, followed by Ron Horanday, Matt Crafton and Ken Schrader. Schrader set the track record last year in qualifying.

Darrell Wallace Jr. qualified sixth, followed by Jeb Burton, Chase Pistone, Timothy Peters and Bryan Silas.

Defending race winner Austin Dillon qualified 19th. TJ Bell and Jared Landers both didn’t have the qualifying laps they wanted, having to be toed off following contact with the wall.

The trucks will now be sorted into heat races to set up the starting grid for the event tonight.
