Driver of the No. 4 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet, Kevin Harvick, scored his fifth pole award of the season today at Bristol Motor Speedway. He posted a lap of 131.362 mph, 0.008 seconds faster than driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet, Jeff Gordon.
Out of twenty-seven starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Harvick has one victory with nine top-5 and twelve top-10 finishes. Harvick already has two wins this season and has clinched a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Harvick commented about his run, “It feels great. Just have to thank everybody on our Jimmy John’s team for really everything they do every week for qualifying and race cars that they bring to the race track are incredibly fast. They have helped improve my qualifying record a tremendous amount. This was no different.”
Winner of last week’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Jeff Gordon, will start the race in second position. Gordon has had an impressive season this year with three wins, eight top-5 and sixteen top-10 finishes. Gordon is currently the series points leader with two races to go before the Chase.
Carl Edwards will start the Irwin Tools Night Race in third position. Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Fastenal Ford, posted a lap time of 14.624 seconds.
Drivers of the No. 18 Doublemint Toyota and the No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano round out the top 5 starting positions.
The green flag will fall on the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday August 23rd at 7:30 pm local time.
