Looking to secure his way into the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Kevin Harvick would score his seventh pole of the 2014 season for the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. The lap of 22.095 seconds marks Harvick’s 13th career pole and his first at Dover. Harvick has put himself in good position to clinch a spot in the next round with a pair of top-five finishes at Chicagoland Speedway and New Hampshire.
Trying to bounce back from last weekend’s misfortune, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin would qualify second and third as they look to keep Joe Gibbs Racing in the running for the Chase. Chicagoland winner Brad Keselowski qualified fourth, followed by Jamie McMurray.
Jeff Gordon, who has been solid so far in the Chase like Harvick, qualified sixth, followed by Kyle Larson, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon, Brian Vickers and Kasey Kahne.
A bunch of Chase drivers would qualify outside of the top 12 in the final round before the cut off.
