Nemechek Returns to Daytona International Speedway with Chevrolet
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (February 16, 2015) — Joe Nemechek will pilot the No. 87 D.A.B. Constructors, Inc. Chevrolet in this year’s NASCAR XFINITY Series season for NEMCO Motorsports, commencing with the Alert Today Florida 300 on February 21 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (DIS).
Nemechek and the NEMCO Motorsports team are ready to “restart” the year, targeting an even better result than last February at Daytona International Speedway. One year ago, Nemechek started the race with a 24th-place qualifying position, and finished in the 12th position.
“We are looking forward to going back to Daytona International Speedway,” Nemechek said. “Our NASCAR XFINITY Series No. 87 team has a limited schedule planned this year, and our good friends from D.A.B. Constructors, Inc., SWM International Inc. and Bully Hill Vineyards are going to help us out with that.”
Nemechek, a two-time Daytona International Speedway winner in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, has 32 series starts at the 2.5-mile tri-oval superspeedway. The Lakeland, Fla., native has two wins (1998, 2002), four top-five and seven top-10 finishes in the NASCAR XFINITY Series at the World Center of Racing. In addition, Nemechek has 38 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts which include a sixth-place finish in 2004.
“Daytona has been a good place for me in the past, where we have had some very good runs, and won some races. I know that any time I am on the superspeedways we have an opportunity to win,” Nemechek said. “This year we are in a Chevrolet with (Earnhardt Childress Racing) ECR power under the hood.”
This week in the season-opener for the NASCAR XFINITY Series, Nemechek, the 1992 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion, returns to the famed superspeedway in a Chevrolet. NEMCO Motorsports reunited their partnership with Chevrolet in January. Nemechek has 19 starts at Daytona International Speedway in the NASCAR XFINITY Series with the iconic manufacturer.
In 52 combined NASCAR XFINITY Series starts at both Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway, Nemechek has recorded four wins, 11 top-five finishes and 16 top-10s. He has led a total 416 laps on NASCAR’s current restrictor-plate tracks.
The 2015 season will mark the 27th season that Nemechek has competed in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Nemechek wheeled the NEMCO Motorsports No. 87 in six races in 2014, including a sixth-place finish locked in at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in May. Nemechek’s six XFINITY Series starts in 2014 earned him an average finish of 17.3.
Steven Gray assumes the role of crew chief for the No. 87 Chevrolet Camaro team this year.
Nemechek will run a limited NASCAR XFINITY Series schedule in the No. 87 Chevrolet along with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races for NEMCO Motorsports.
