MB Motorsports continues its tradition of helping develop NASCAR’s stars of tomorrow, as Garrett Smithley will make his NASCAR debut in the team’s #63 HEROBOX.org Chevy Silverado. The 22 year old first started his racing career at AMS behind the wheel of a Bandolero, followed by Legend cars, just down the road from his hometown in Peachtree
City, GA.
Not only is Garrett a ‘local’, but his partner for the race, HEROBOX.org also is based in Peachtree City, only 25 miles from the speedway. Thrilled to be making his NCWTS debut Garrett commented “It means so much to launch my NASCAR career right where it all started over 7 years ago. Competing in my first Bandolero races on the 1/4 mile oval, I never dreamed I would have the chance to come home to Atlanta Motor Speedway for my first NASCAR Truck Series race. It’s all very surreal!”
“Garrett is a young driver with a lot of talent,” according to team owner Mike Mittler. “We’re very happy to have him drive for us this weekend at Atlanta. The fact that we can do it with HEROBOX is great, as our team has a long history of supporting our military families.”
HEROBOX.org CEO Ryan Housley noted enthusiastically, “HEROBOX.org is very proud to partner with Garrett Smithley as he makes his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series. Garrett is an avid supporter of our troops and we are honored to consider him an ambassador for our organization. His support for us carrying our banners in the ARCA
series at Pocono and Kentucky was just great. We hope many will join us in supporting Garrett as he raises awareness for our military veterans in the #63 HEROBOX.org Chevrolet!”
“I have the opportunity to make my NASCAR Truck series debut at my home track. It’s even better that HEROBOX.org, a 501c3 non-profit organization supporting military programs based in my hometown will be on the truck. All the stars aligned to make this weekend happen and I am just thrilled right now!” Smithley added.
In addition to HEROBOX.org appearing on Smithley’s #63 Mittler Brothers Chevy Silverado he continues his growing associations with SegPay, MUVI/Veho and Enduring Gratitude. “The truck will be presented in full military camouflage green to represent HEROBOX.org and all that they do to help serve this country’s active duty men and women as well as veterans of our armed forces,” continued Smithley. “I am so proud and honored to be in a position to create awareness for such a worthy cause.”
HEROBOX.org will invite 15 veterans from the Atlanta area to the Atlanta Motor Speedway as their special VIP guests to see Garrett Smithley in action at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Mittler Brothers Machine & Tool, Excel Bottling Company / Ski Soda and WIX Filters will also be continuing their support of MB Motorsports this weekend.
The Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 will air live on Fox Sports 1 at 5:30pm EST Saturday, with practice on Friday 27th at 2:30 pm and qualifying the following morning at 10:30 am. The race will also be broadcast live via SIRIUS XM channel 90 and MRN Radio, the Motor Racing Network. Follow MB Motorsports on Twitter (@MBMotorsports) for live updates during the race.
HEROBOX: HeroBox evolved from a family’s simple effort of supporting their hero. HeroBox founder Ryan Housley learned during his brother’s deployment that many service members were not receiving any support from home. He also noticed that all deployed service members have specific needs depending on their gender, location and a variety of
other factors. Most care packages are generic and don’t provide the items our heroes need.
Ryan worked with brother to develop a web platform that would connect the American people with their heroes instantly online. Thus giving service members the ability to request specific items and providing Americans with a way to directly support the troops. HeroBox.org was launched in May 2008 to support this vision. HeroBox now has volunteers in all 50 states who help us support tens of thousands of deployed service members each year. In 2013, HeroBox expanded its programs to include injured, aging and homeless veterans.
HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports deployed, injured, aging and homeless veterans. Our mission is to ensure that every American hero receives the physical and moral support they deserve. For more information on HEROBOX, please visit www.herobox.org
