NXS: Austin Dillon Leads Boyd Gaming 300 Final Practice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Richard Childress Racing went into the off-season knowing that they had to find ways to improve their XFINITY program. The steps that they have taken seem to be paying off as they were fast during final practice for the Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Austin Dillon would lead the practice with a lap of 29.520 seconds, giving him a sweep of the practice sessions. Brian Scott would give RCR a 1-2 sweep with the second quickest time, 0.536 seconds off of Dillon. Scott did not make any laps in the first practice as a result of an engine failure. Ryan Sieg was third quickest for his family based team, followed by RCR’s Brendan Gaughan and JR Motorsports’ Regan Smith.

“The Great Clips/Tax Slayer team has been working hard all year,” Smith commented. “We didn’t get the results that we wanted last week, but we’ve got a fast car here. We’re just trying to work on it and get it better through the bumps. It seems that everyone is working on that with this track.”

Elliott Sadler was sixth, followed by Denny Hamlin, Blake Koch, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ryan Blaney.

“It came off the trailer real fast,” Earnhardt commented. “We haven’t cycled the tires a ton so they’re not doing me any favors right now. We’re going to put some stickers on and see if we’re in the right ballpark.”

The practice would be delayed three times by Mario Gosselin stopping on track, Jeff Green stopping on track, and Josh Reaume dropping fluid on the track, causing him to slide up into the turn four wall.
