As part of the Short Track Night of Champions portion of the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Show, Taylor Holdaway was awarded the Breakout Driver of the Year Award.
“We’ve always been a top-five, top-10 car – a lot of podium finishes, but never been able to get that big win,” Holdaway commented. “We had a two and three-win season in 2011 and 2012, went winless in 2013 which was kind of a slump. We’ve never been one of those drivers that’s been mentioned in anything, really. We’re just kind one of those underdogs that don’t get mentioned.
“Hopefully this year we’re going to make a name for ourselves.”
The driver of the No. 41 Image Factor Motorsports Designs, Ontario Oval News, Castrol Motor Oil, Wix Filters, BG Automotive Products, Holdaway Automotive, Sunshine Super Wash, Dubz Thermal Products, and Thor Motors Late Model didn’t start off the year like he would’ve hoped. However, throughout the final two months, he turned up the heat and finished off the year with a string of top-five finishes, highlighted by wins at Sunset Speedway’s season finale and the Canadian Limited Late Model Championship 125 at Sunset. As a result, he would finish second in Sunset’s points to Dwayne Baker.
“Couldn’t picture a better ending, the last month, not outside of the top-five,” Holdaway commented. “Can’t thank Scott Wylie enough. He came onboard partway through the season and once he came by, we started going uphill.”
Holdaway added that Wylie is “pretty much the brains of operation”, always helping the team figure out the right set-up to put underneath the car. Holdaway announced that his team, Holdaway Motorsports, will field two cars in 2015 with Wylie behind the wheel of the second entry.
“It’s going to be nice to have him at the track this year just beside us if I have a question,” Holdaway said. “Practice, he can see the car and get to have some fun while he’s up here.”
Going into this year, Holdaway has his sights set up on the Sunset Speedway Championship as the track enters its first year under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner.
“I think everybody wants to be the first one to be Sunset’s NASCAR Champion so we’re going to do our homework and see what we can do,” he commented.
