NASCAR announced on Wednesday, August 26 that Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth will each lose 15 minutes of practice time next weekend at Darlington Raceway as a result of inspection issues at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Busch’s team failed pre-race inspection four times, while Kenseth’s team failed pre-race inspection two times plus were late for inspection.
Additionally, the teams of Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, Alex Bowman, Travis Kvapil and Timmy Hill received a warning for failing pre-qualifying inspection, while the teams of Landon Cassill, Matt DiBenedetto, Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin received a warning for being late to the inspection line.
NASCAR began the warning policy at the beginning of the season as a way to encourage teams to tidy-up behavior surrounding inspection, following delays that saw over 10 teams miss inspection in the first races of the season. The system was slightly changed in August 5, with the previous warnings being wiped off the slate and the ability to not appeal a warning. Also, once a team gets a fourth warning in a season, it will result in the loss of pit selection. So far since the system has been changed, the teams of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Paul Menard, Josh Wise, A.J. Allmendinger and Brad Keselowski have received warnings.
