October 11 will mark the United States’ largest and most prestigious Late Model stock car race of the year. Hosted at Martinsville Speedway, there will be over 80 of the best Late Model drivers trying to walk away with a $25,000 pay check, the famous Martinsville Speedway Grandfather Clock and bragging rights for a year.
Saturday will be qualifying day with the top two drivers in qualifying advance to the main feature race. Then on Sunday, the day will start off with three heat races for 25 laps each. The top ten advance to the main, and one final 25 lap last chance race with the top ten advancing. The final race will then be 200 laps. There will be one manditory caution at lap 150, which will let teams make final adjustments to set up for a 50 lap final shootout.
Who are some drivers to watch for during this event?
Four-time NASCAR National Champion Phillip Morris has won this race three times and is the only three-time winner. You will also have three-time NASCAR Champion Lee Pulliam, who has had a spectacular season so far, collecting 29 wins this year at various tracks through out the southeast. He also won this race twice already, so he definitely knows his way around the famous paper clip. Another two-time winner of this race is Barry Beggarly.
Don’t rule out past winner Jake Crum, who set the fast time during the open practice day a few weeks back. There are so many names to throw out as you also have to watch out for Timothy Peters, Tommy Lemons Jr, Jamey Caudill, Alex Yontz.
Its going to be a fast paced action packed race; you won’t want to miss it. So come on down to Ridgeway, VA and watch the best race of the whole year. Tickets are just $30 at the gate and youth ages 12 and under get in for $5.
