HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2015) – The fans have spoken. And for Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, that means a second consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Most Popular Driver Award. Elliott accepted the 2015 Most Popular Driver (MPD) honors during Monday night’s season-ending banquet at the Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Fla.
It stands as the second such award for Elliott in only his sophomore year of full-time NXS competition. He joins Brad Keselowski, who won MPD in 2008-09, as the only JRM drivers to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
“I was extremely grateful to have the fans vote for me last year,” Elliott said. “But for them to do it two years in a row just blows me away. So I’m thankful for that. It’s their award to give, which makes this even more special. They’re a passionate bunch and I’m honored they took the time to vote for me.”
This marks the fourth consecutive year fans have voted a JRM driver as MPD. The four-year sweep began with Danica Patrick’s victory in 2012, Regan Smith’s in 2013, and finally, Elliott’s titles in 2014-15. Including Keselowski’s MPD honors in 2008-09, a JRM driver has won the award in six of the last eight NXS seasons.
