Practice 4 for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday, May 19 saw Honda cars pretty much dominate all of practice. Honda had 11 cars out of the top-15 and six in the top-10.
Gabby Chaves, driver of the No. 19 Dale Coyne Honda, was the fastest in practice with a speed of 227.961 mph and a time of 00:39.4804.
Andretti Autosport teammates Townsend Bell and Carlos Munoz in Hondas were second and third fastest with the speed of 227.593 (Bell) and 227.589 (Munoz)/
Conor Daly, driver of the Shirts of America Honda, was fourth with the speed of 227.524, while Charlie Kimball, driver of the No. 42 Tresiba Chevrolet, was fifth with the speed of 227.477.
Rounding out the top-10 was Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves in Chevrolets, followed by Marco Andretti and Pippa Mann in Hondas.
Early on in practice a caution flag was flown for a track inspection and then with an hour to go in practice the yellow flew again when Ryan Hunter-Reay, driver of the No. 28 DHL Honda, blew an engine. Hunter-Reay was 11th fastest at the time and was able to get out of the car and is okay.
