Penalties were handed down in NASCAR on Wednesday for infractions in regards to the race weekend at Dover International Speedway.
The first was handed down to No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team of driver Kasey Kahne, the penalty was a P3-grade. The violation the team was penalized for was sections 20.17.3.1.2 (post-race general inspection measurements); 12.5.3.4.2 a,b,c,d and 12.5.3.4.1 n,o (that spelled out P3 penalty examples) of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book. Crew chief Keith Rodden was fine a $25,000 fine.
“We had an unintentional issue at Dover when our left- and right-side truck arms were bent at some point during the race,” said Rodden. “I’m disappointed in NASCAR’s decision, but we have to accept it and focus on the upcoming races. We have a great team with a lot of positive momentum that we hope to carry into the summer.”
Also Rick Hendrick was docked a loss of 15 championship owner points as well as Kahne a loss of 15 championship driver points. The Enumclaw, Washington native was in the 16th and final Chase Grid spot before the penalty. Now with the loss of the 15th points that now moves AJ Allmendinger into 16th spot. Hendrick Motorsports will not appeal the penalty.
NASCAR also penalized the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports team in the Camping World Truck Series. The No 51. Toyota team was handed a P2 penalty for violations of sections 20.17.3.2.1 a,b,c,; 12.5.3.3.g; and 12.5.3.3.2 a,b,c,d of the NASCAR Rule Book. The No. 51 truck during post-race inspection was found too high in the left rear.
Daniel Suarez, who drives full-time in the XFINITY Series, was the driver of the No. 51 for Dover en route to a runner-up finish. KBM crew chief Kevin Manion was fine $6,000 and placed on NASCAR probation through December 31st and the team was docked a loss of 10 championship owner points.
