In the eighth practice for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway saw six Chevrolets and four Hondas in the top-10 in speeds. The top speed was set by Josef Newgarden, driver of the No. 21 Preferred Freezer Chevrolet, with a speed of 227.414 mph.
Tony Kanaan, driver of the No. 10 NTT Data Chevrolet, was second with a speed of 226.393 mph, followed by his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon, driver of the No. 9 Target Chevrolet, with a speed of 226.339 mph. Fourth went to Sage Karam, driver of the No. 24 DRR-Kingdom Racing Chevrolet, with a speed of 226.045 mph, while rounding out the top-five was the Pippa Mann, driver of the Susan G. Komen Honda, with a speed of 225.833 mph, which was the fastest Honda of the day.
Sixth through tenth were as follows: Charlie Kimball, Mikhail Aleshin, JR Hildebrand, Alexander Rossi, and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
There was incident involving Jack Hawksworth, driver of the No. 41 ABC Supply Honda, as his engine blew during the session.
The next and final practice for the Indy 500 will be run on Friday May 27th.
