On June 24 IndyCar laid out the plan for how the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway will be resumed. The race was postponed on June 12 because of rain after only completing 71 of the 248 laps. The race will be completed on August 27.
Due to the major chassis and engine damage sustained in their crash on Lap 42 prior to the race being postponed, Conor Daly’s No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda, and Josef Newgarden’s No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet will not be allowed to be a part of the resumption of the race.
James Hinchcliffe, driver of the No. 5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda, will start the race from pole as he was leading when the red flag fell on Lap 71.
All the cars will be continuing in the race will be allowed to use the chassis as well as the engine of their choice for the race. The tires as well as fuel quantity has yet to be determined for the race. All of the Pre-race aero setups used in the June 12 event will be mandatory for the completion of the race in August, however IndyCar might make some changes before the completion race based on what the forecasted weather will look like for that day.
The rest of the 177 laps will be completed on August 27.
- A mandatory systems check (an out/in lap only);
- A 25-minute practice session: All cars competing will be split into two groups, each group will receive 10 minutes of practice time with a five –minute break in between groups
- A driver autograph session will take place on the tracks concourse
- Completion of the race will be in the evening.
Texas Motor Speedway will announce what their plans will be concerning ticketing, credentialing, camping along with various other fan-related facility based items in the next few weeks.
