Simon Pagenaud, driver of the No.22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet, had a good run going in the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America – till near the end.
He was running in the top-five for most of the race, but as the laps wound down, the French driver fell out of the top-10. It was later revealed to have been an electrical issue in the car.
“We were having a really good day, but unfortunately we had a little issue with the engine,” Pagenaud stated. “We had the Menards Chevy hunting for the win. We had a really good race going in this wonderful setting at Road America. The atmosphere was perfect. The race strategy was perfect. It’s tough when you have an opportunity and you can’t maximize it in the championship. It’s a tough day today, but we’ll bounce back. This team is incredible. They give me the best cars every weekend, so we’ll just move forward.”
The current IndyCar Series Championship points leader was able to keep the lead, however, his teammate Helio Castroneves is slowly creeping up on him only 74 points out.
