Leading flag-to-flag, Lane Zardo dominated the 35-lap feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway to score his first career victory.
When the feature started, it was Zardo starting pole ahead of Nick Goetz, Paul Maltese, Scott Wylie, Tom Walters, Ryan Kimball, Mike Bentley, Thayne Hallyburton, Gord Shepherd, Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, Brandon Watson, Al Inglis, Mike Wilkinson, Danny Benedict, Chance Isherwood, Billy Zardo and Brittney Gresel.
The caution flew right from the green flag as Goetz went wide in turn two following contact, before slowing down the backstretch.
The second attempt went cleanly with Zardo putting the No. 46 Holmes on Homes, Shelby Roofing, National Exhaust, Better Contracting, Smart Screen and Cabral Racing Promotions Late Model out front ahead of Maltese and Wylie. Walters then got alongside Wylie for third at Lap 2, completing the pass two laps later and bringing both Bentley and Shepherd through with him.
Bentley looked to continue his climb, getting alongside Wylie for third at Lap 7, completing the pass two laps later. Bentley then got alongside Maltese for second at Lap 10, completing that pass two laps later and bringing Shepherd through with him. Maltese now ran fourth ahead of Wylie, with Travis Hallyburton getting alongside Wylie for fifth at Lap 14.
Hallyburton completed the pass a lap later, getting alongside Maltese for fourth as Watson got alongside Wylie for sixth ahead of Holdaway and Walters. Watson was able to move into sixth at Lap 18, as Travis Hallyburton passed Maltese for fourth. Watson then followed him through, bumping Maltese back to sixth ahead of Holdaway, Wylie, Goetz, Thayne Hallyburton, Kimball and Wilkinson. Holdaway continued his climb to the front, passing Maltese for sixth at Lap 23, with Wylie getting alongside for seventh as Walters and Goetz battled for ninth.
At the front of the field, Zardo continued to lead ahead of Bentley, Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton, Watson and Holdaway as Wylie and Maltese battled for seventh at Lap 25. Wylie got the spot a lap later, with Goetz following him through for eighth. Maltese now ran ninth ahead of Walters, Thayne Hallyburton and Kimball as Billy Zardo and Wilkinson ran side-by-side for 13th.
Goetz continued his climb, passing Wylie for seventh at Lap 31, with Walters getting alongside Maltese for ninth. Walters was unable to complete the pass, with instead Thayne Hallyburton getting alongside Walters for 10th with two laps later.
Up front, Lane Zardo led the rest of the way easily, scoring the victory 2.5 seconds ahead of Mike Bentley, Gord Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton and Brandon Watson. Taylor Holdaway finished sixth, followed by Nick Goetz, Scott Wylie, Paul Maltese and Thayne Hallyburton.
Tom Walters finished 11th, followed by Ryan Kimball, Mike Wilkinson, Billy Zardo, Ernie Fumerton, Al Inglis, Danny Benedict and Brittney Gresel.
