On Wednesday, NASCAR announced penalties for the No. 43 team of Richard Petty Motorsports driven by Aric Almirola for infractions that occurred last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The L1 penalty was levied due to the No. 43 Ford Fusion failing inspection on the LIS.
The penalty included a $65,000 fine and three race suspension for crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer. The team will also be docked 35 owner points and 35 driver points. Additionally, the race finish is encumbered (see chart below for details).
Richard Petty Motorsports released a statement today regarding the penalty stating, “We accept NASCAR’s decision and will continue to work to get the most out of our race cars every week while maintaining the NASCAR rulebook. We look forward to Kansas this weekend.”
In addition to the penalties issued to the No. 43, NASCAR also issued a safety penalty to the No. 7 team driven this past weekend by Elliott Sadler due to improperly installed lugnuts.
Additionally, crew member, Reid Ferguson, was suspended indefinitely for issues related to NASCAR’s substance abuse policy.
