Esteban Gutierrez’ first race weekend in Toronto hasn’t gone to plan after crashes in both practice and qualifying, but the Mexican driver has been cleared to race, according to INDYCAR.
INDYCAR Medical Director Dr. Michael Olinger wouldn’t clear Gutierrez to return to the car after crashing in qualifying on Saturday. Gutierrez was suffering from concussion-like symptoms following the accident. After further evaluation this morning, Gutierrez has been cleared to drive.
In an interview with OnPitRoad.com on Saturday before the accident, Gutierrez said he had been “trying the limits” of the car all weekend. He also said he lacking confidence in turns nine, 10 and 11. The qualifying crash occurred in turn 11.
A Dale Coyne Racing engineer confirmed that the team stayed at the track until around 11 p.m. on Saturday night preparing the car for racing later today.
