Chase Elliott and his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy team were hit with an L1 level penalty due to infractions that occurred at ISM Raceway on Sunday. The infractions were related to trailing arm spacers and shims in the rear suspension (see below).
Chevy teams have struggled this season after switching from the SS to the Camaro body. Elliott, who has been the strongest driver in the Hendrick camp this season, was the only Chevy driver to finish in the top-ten on Sunday.
Crew chief Alan Gustafson was fined $50,000, car chief Josh Kirk has been suspended for the next two races and the team lost 25 owner and driver points.
In addition to the penalties Elliott, NASCAR also handed down penalties to the crew chiefs for Hamlin, Blaney, Stenhouse, Logano and Truex for loose lugnuts found in post-race inspection.
NASCAR is nit picking, just as speeding in the pit lane, why don’t they have a radar unit as they are entering the pit area? Just like a school zone.
