Joey Logano picked up right where he left off in the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice of the year — on top of the pylon.
The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion was fastest in the lone practice session for Sunday afternoon’s Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona International Speedway. He put up the fastest lap of 45.735 seconds.
Jimmie Johnson, with a new sponsor in Ally Financial was second in practice, followed by Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick.
Practice for the Clash saw the first accident of the 2019 season when Chase Elliott made contact with Ryan Newman in the No. 6 for Roush Fenway Racing. Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick were also involved in the accident.
Daniel Suarez, new to the Stewart-Haas Racing camp, also had an incident in practice when he spun entering pit road.
