NNS: Brian Scott paces qualifying at Chicagoland

Richard Childress Racing driver, Brian Scott, blew by the competition in the “Windy City” to score his third pole of the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. His previous two poles came at Richmond, and here at Chicagoland.

Scott posted a lap of 181.409 mph, to beat out the two team that have been the class of the field this season in the Nationwide Series, the No. 22 of Ryan Blaney and the No. 54 of Kyle Busch.

Scott was asked why he qualifies so well at Chicagoland, he respond, “Well qualifying is a lot about the team and RCR and ECR have done a great job on these Chevrolet Camaros to get horsepower, to have good aerodynamics, and Phil Gould and all my guys on my team have done a great job to put the right setup underneath it. I don’t know what it is, I don’t what I’ve have here. I’ve been able to qualify first here three times, I’m yet to go to victory lane here, which it’s one of my best tracks, or least I consider it, so hopefully I can get the big trophy, the one that really counts tonight.”

Scott also had to beat out the unusually cold temperatures in Chicago. At the time of qualifying, temperatures were in the low 50’s. Significant rain at the track yesterday, rained out the Camping World Truck Series race and Sprint Cup series qualifying. It also washed the rubber from the racetrack. An early morning practice session for the Sprint Cup cars helped, but the race track was still considered somewhat “green” by most competitors.

Series points leader, Chase Elliott, will start in the fourth position. In the NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet for Jr Motorsports. Kyle Larson rounds out the top five in the No. 42 Colgate Chevrolet.

The green will fall on the Jimmy Johns Freaky Fast 300 at powered by Coca-Cola at approximately 3:30 EST.
