BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 9, 2015) — The infield at Michigan International Speedway came to life with the best wineries, breweries and now distilleries from across the state Saturday. The sixth annual Michigan Wine and Beer Fest presented by Experience Jackson returned to the track, featuring the same great variety of wines and beers.
Island Winery was the named top winery for the second consecutive year. The guests voted New Holland Brewing top brewery, while Temperance Distilling took home top distillery honors.
The event showcased the tastes and toasts of Michigan wineries, Michigan breweries and Michigan eateries in a unique setting — the state’s only NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racetrack and the fastest track on the circuit.
“The Michigan Wine and Beer Fest presented by Experience Jackson is always a great event to bring people to the area to sample the wine, beers, hard cider and spirits from our state,” MIS President Roger Curtis said. “We look forward to it every year and it is serves as the beginning to summer for us. Congratulations to the best winery, brewery and distillery. And thanks to all our guests who returned for another awesome event.”
More than 30 award-winning wineries from across the state of Michigan were on hand showcasing about 100 varieties of wine including, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and others.
The craft beer craze is sweeping Michigan, making the state the fifth in the nation in the number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs. The Michigan Wine and Beer Fest presented by Experience Jackson is a great place to try all the seasonal beers that this state offers.
The event for guests 21 and older continues to grow as distilleries were added this year.
Guests could sample their favorite wines, beers, hard ciders and spirits right in the infield at MIS. And they could even purchase their favorite Michigan craft beers, wines and spirits in the retail store. MIS is one of only a handful of festivals in the state that has a retail store on site.
The Phoenix Theory entertained the crowd well into the evening.
The action started on Friday evening when Michigan International Speedway hosted the inaugural SPEEDWAY STOMP™ 5K paced by Experience Jackson on Friday.
The 3.1-mile run took participants around portions of the MIS oval and through parts of its historic grounds. It served as a lead-in event the evening before Saturday’s Michigan Wine and Beer Fest presented by Experience Jackson.
More than 250 runners registered for SPEEDWAYS STOMP.
Joel Dinverno from Grass Lake, Michigan, was the top male finisher, while Lindsay Harris from Brooklyn finished first among the females. Each winner received two tickets to the August 16Pure Michigan 400, two pit passes and two driver introduction passes.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
