May 16th
Sunset Speedway hosted the start of our 47th race season and opening night for the OSCAAR Modifieds. Our Quaker State Lincoln Welders Mod was good to go from the first set of hot laps.
Our crew worked tirelessly making sure all aspects of our car were ready for the first qualifying race.
In our first heat race we jumped into 2nd behind #21 Chris Milwain. Our car was fast and we twice tried to get by Chris but each time he came down forcing me to back out. The top 3 ran nose to tail and on lap 5 I had to check up to avoid hitting the leader and that cost us 2nd place but we did finish 3rd in our first race of 2015.
For our second qualifier we made one small adjustment to help us get on the gas a little sooner coming off the corners. The handling improvement gave us a great run in the second qualifier. Our car ran awesome getting by cars in the pack to move into 2nd place and put our sights on race leader #09 Dan Price. We were able to get a good run coming off turn four to race down the front straight side by side for the lead. It marked our first win of 2015 in our Quaker State Lincoln Welders Modifed.
We started 6th in the feature. It was a very fast race with the top cars up front. It was a clean race, only one caution in the 30 event.
When the dust settled in this race we would cross the line in 5th bringing home our first top 5 feature finish of 2015, giving us a great start to the OSCAAR Modified 13 race tour.
Quaker State Late Model Debuts At Sauble Speedway
While we raced our Modified at Sunset Speedway, Jason Legge took our Quaker State to Sauble Speedway to run in the 10 series Late Model points chase. I will drive in 7 of the 10 races and Jason will cover me for the ones I will miss while in the Modified. Our race season for 2015 includes 20 Late Model races, and I will be in all of them but the three, to give us a chance to have 100% at Sauble Speedway in 2015.
In the 30 lap feature, Jason finished 7th and gave us a great points night to start off the season. Congratulations to Jason and his crew for an excellent night of racing and representing all our sponsors.
