Following three straight finishes outside of the top-10, it’s no wonder that Tony Kanaan enters this weekend frustrated with how things are going right now.
Kanaan was running up front at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in contention to win the Indianapolis 500. However, an adjustment on a pit stop made the car loose and after getting back up to speed, he would spin and hit the wall, resulting in a 26th place finish after leading 30 laps.
Last weekend, the Duel in Detroit didn’t go anything like Kanaan would’ve hoped for, with a 20th place finish in the first race, followed by a 13th place finish in the second event.
“The last three races for NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing have been really frustrating, so we’re all ready to get to Texas where I’ve had some good results over the years and see what we can do there,” he said.
Texas Motor Speedway was the sight of a victory for Kanaan in 2004 and in his past two starts on the oval, he has finished third and sixth. Over the course of his career, though, he has done well at the intermediate track. He boosts the fourth best average finish of active drivers – 5.7 – with a win and six podium finishes in 15 starts.
“I think this year’s Firestone 600 will be an interesting race with the high speeds and new aero kits, but the series has been working hard to make sure we’re prepared for the fast track at Texas Motor Speedway,” he added. “I’m excited to get to Texas, especially with my sponsor NTT Data being headquartered there. We’ll have a lot of fans out there and I can’t wait to get out there and drive the No. 10 Chevrolet.”
