For the second time in 2015, Sunset Speedway hosted OSCAAR with all three of their touring divisions. Fans were treated to an on track autograph session before settling into their seats for a great night of racing action. With the pre-race ceremonies in the book it was time to get down for some on track racing excitement.
Dickies Outlaw Super Late Models presented by London Recreational Racing:
With the previous weeks event at Flamboro Speedway cancelled the Outlaws were ready to get back on track. The heat races showed that these teams came to race. Heat #1 would see the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma pick up his first checker flag of 2015. Current point leader #17 Kevin Cornelius would pick up the wins in heat #2 and #3. Also getting his first checker of the year was the #22 of Glenn Watson in heat #4. The fifty lap feature event would be the final event of the evening and it was well worth the wait. The #b10 of Kelly Balson and the #54 of Mike Beyore would lead the field to green with Beyore getting the jump on the field. Mike was back in his familiar ride and would lead the field for the first twelve laps of the event. The fastest car all night had been the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma and on lap thirteen used all that power to move to lead. Derrick had opened up a half lap lead on the rest of the field until a late race caution would bunch the field up for a restart. With the #7 taking the high lane that left the bottom for #17 of Kevin Cornelius who had worked his way up to second place. The restart would see some contact with the #7 getting into the outside retaining wall. The resulting damage would sideline the #7 on lap 42 and see their hopes of feature win fade away. It was now the #17 and #54 lining up for the restart with the #17 getting the advantage and going on to take their second feature win of 2015. Mike Beyore recorded his best feature finish in OSCAAR with a second place run, with Kelly Balson in the B10 rounding out the podium. Rookie contender #29 of Sean Grossman battled back from being a lap down to record his best OSCAAR finish in fourth place. Glenn Watson recovered from their opening weekend motor issues to round out the top five at the conclusion of the feature event.
The outlaws are now off to regroup until the series returns to Sunset Speedway on June 27th, an event no one will want to miss.

HOOSIER Modifieds:
The Hoosier Modifieds put on some great open wheel action for the fans Saturday night. With 19 drivers signed in for action, everyone was wondering was tonight the night that someone can stop the #8 of Gary McLean. With the qualifying heats up first, the #83 of Justin DeMelo making his first start of 2015 would pick up his first checker flag of the season. Heat race number two would see the closest finish in Hoosier Modified history with the #8 of McLean taking the win by less than 1000th of a second over the #77 of Chad Strawn. Heat #4 would see that same two battling it out again with the #8 of McLean besting the #77. The #14 of Davey Terry also made his first start of 2015 and recorded a victory in heat race #3. The 30 lap feature would see the #15 of Brad Pearsall line up beside outside pole starter #14 of Davey Terry. The #14 of Terry would jump out to an early lead for the first six laps of the event. Lucky lap seven would see the #15 of Pearsall make his move to the lead until lap ten when the #8 of Gary McLean would take over the top spot which he would hold onto to capture his second feature event of 2015. The hard charger of the event was the#79h of Cory Horner who started the event in thirteenth place. At the end of the event everyone was asking where the #79h came from and left people wondering if he had something for the #8 of McLean. Rounding out the top three was the #15 of Brad Pearsall who was making his first start of 2015 after taking a year off. Davey Terry and Ryan Dick rounded out the top five.

Midas of Orangeville Midgets:
The Midas of Orangeville Midgets have been the busiest touring group in Ontario so far in 2015, as they entered into their third event of the season this weekend. Thirty one teams signed in to do battle at Sunset Speedway. With the field divided into three heat race groups, everyone was hoping to make the top twenty in heat race points to avoid running the B main. Robin McLean in the #97 gave notice early that he would be one to watch in the feature event by picking up the checkers in heat #1 and heat #6. After missing the previous event at Peterborough Speedway the #83 was back and just as fast as ever as Jamie picked up wins in heat #2 and #5. Other heat race winners would be #5 Jody Bound and current points leader #84 Richard Woodland. The final 4 drivers to qualify out of the B Main would be the #77 of James Rodgers, #98 Kevin Spiez, #71 Wayne McKibbon and #13 Craig Deacon. With the 24 car field set for 25 laps of racing action it would not take long for the #83 of Jamie Bound to establish himself as the leader and the one to beat in the feature. However on a lap twelve restart the left front wheel would fall off entering turn two, thus ending his dominate performance. By this time lurking in the back ground was the #97 of Robing McLean who took over the top stop and would go on to record his first feature win of 2015 and completing a clean sweep on the night. After a rough outing at Peterborough Speedway the #5 of Jody Bound recorded at second place finish, with the #68 of Adam Carrothers rounding out the top three. Rookie Jim Rodgers in the #88 would be fourth and last week’s feature winner #84 Richard Woodland rounding out the top five.
The Midget teams will be joining the Modifieds at Full Throttle Speedway this coming Saturday for their fourth event of the season. With three different feature winners so far it is anyone’s guess who might be celebrating in victory lane this coming weekend.
