Following a season that saw him finish in the top-five in points, Billy Zardo will return back to Sunset Speedway in 2016 to run the full Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Limited Late Model Series schedule.
The decision marks an easy one for the Zardo Racing driver, as he says he made the choice due to Sunset being “the most competitive track in Ontario”. Boosting car counts ranging from 20 to 30 cars on any given week for the late models, the fans have gotten used to the fact that eight to 10 of those drivers could easily win the feature that night.
“The competition in the late models at Sunset is completely incredible,” Zardo commented. “There are so many battles going on for every possible inch of the track. You have to be on your toes and a bit lucky… anyone can win any night.”
Beyond the strength of the division, one of the notable story lines going into the season is that both Zardo brothers will be racing in the Late Model division, with Lane making the move up from the Super Stock division to run a Late Model full-time this upcoming season.
“I am very excited about the upcoming season, especially since I’m racing full time against my brother,” Billy Zardo commented.
Looking back on last season, it was a successful campaign for Zardo and team as he would finish fourth in points with six top-fives and 15 top-10s on the season.
“I am very happy with my results from last year,” he commented. “A fourth in points and a 83rd out of all north America is something to be proud of.”
Going into this season, he is hoping to finish top-three in points, as well as top-30 in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I standings. Though to make it happen and keep on his game, the key will be following one of the biggest things that he’s learned thus far in his career.
“The biggest thing I learned is that you can always improve your car,” he said. “No matter how fast you are.. someone is faster.”
Notably, beyond running the full Sunset Speedway schedule, Zardo is also planning to travel to other tracks around the province for some of the marquee events.
