DETROIT – (February 17, 2016) – Chevrolet is the most successful manufacturer to put rubber to the road at Daytona International Speedway. The 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series kicks off with the ‘super bowl’ of racing – the Daytona 500; and Chevrolet enters another season, hungry to win on the track and in the showroom. Team Chevy drivers have won two of the last three ‘Great American Races’. So far during Speedweeks, the Bowtie Brand is off to a great start. Rookie of the Year contender, Chase Elliott, placed the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet SS on the pole for the 200-lap contest. The pole effort marks the fourth consecutive year that the Chevrolet SS has led the field to the green flag for the Daytona 500. Since 2013, the year the Chevrolet SS moniker made its debut in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Chevrolet has been the pole winner for the season-opener.
As NASCAR enters a new season, new technology comes along with it. The digital dashboard is now required to be used in all NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars. Even before this rule was implemented, Chevrolet engineers were working on how to best make the technology work for an on track advantage. The digital dashboard is just a continuation of the collective work being done between NASCAR and the manufacturers. Several years ago NASCAR implemented EFI (electronic fuel injection), next came biofuels (E85) followed by the debut of the Gen-6 car. The addition of the digital dashboard – which looks very similar to what is now offered in most cars on the showroom floor – is just a continued effort to mimic current technology used in production vehicles.
Each year Chevrolet continues to try and give all Team Chevy fans a great experience at the race track. As the NASCAR season begins at Daytona fans can enjoy the all-new Chevrolet Injector. The Injector offers four floors of Chevrolet displays, cars and product specialist on hand to talk with fans about Chevrolet’s great product line-up. Outside the Injector entrance, fans can visit the traditional Team Chevy display. The display features multiple show cars, all of Chevrolet’s new vehicles line-up and a multitude of driver appearances throughout the weekend.
The 58th running of the Daytona 500 is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday February 21st. Live coverage will be available on FOX, MRN Radio, Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and NASCAR.com.
