After having such a strong run last weekend, Chase Elliott didn’t get the results that he was hoping for at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
On lap 225, Matt Kenseth would get sideways after trying to get underneath Martin Truex Jr., sliding up across the track, right into the path of Elliott, which left him nowhere to go.
It marks the third disappointing week in a row for Kenseth as he fell back in position late in the Daytona 500 after leading numerous laps, and finished deep in the field last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway after a pit road penalty.
“I went into turn one and I wasn’t really hardly turning yet and just spun out before I had any idea what happened,” Kenseth commented. “I don’t know, after that, I was just trying to save our DeWalt Toyota and got ran into from behind.”
For Elliott, it marks his second DNF of the season after crashing 20 laps into the Daytona 500. He did have a strong top-10 run last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, though.
“Just disappointed, what a fast race car, I appreciate everybody working hard,” Elliott sadi. “I feel like we made a lot of gains this weekend. Just a terrible job on my behalf. That is pitiful. We have run three races and finished one. Just a bad job on my end. I ought to know better to miss a wreck like that.”
Elliott added that he could’ve missed the wreck by getting off the brakes.
Behind them, Kurt Busch tried to get underneath Carl Edwards, who was underneath Paul Menard already, with Busch getting sideways and sending both drivers around. Busch would come back to finish ninth.
