At the GoBowling 400 at Kansas Speedway Kevin Harvick, driver of the No.4 Stewart-Haas Chevrolet, overcame early pit stop issues for a magnificent second place finish.
The Bakersfield, California native would qualify for the race in the 26th starting position, but quickly worked his way up and was running in the top-five. Then his team had a awful pit stop and he dropped out of the top-five, but he was able to battle back and after a late round of pit stops, he would be the first car to come off pit road putting him third with 35 laps to go.
As the remaining laps ticked away he was able to take over to second place where he finished when the race ended.
“Thought we had a great run today,” he said. “Just really proud of my team for what they did. From where the car was yesterday, to change pretty much everything on the car and have it be that competitive on the racetrack today says a lot about our team.
“Hit a big piece of debris and knocked a big hunk out of the nose and knocked the splitter down. From that point on it was tight. Otherwise I would have drove around him. All in all, it just didn’t play out that way and they were able to win the race.”
Dover International Speedway will host the next race, the AAA 400 Drive for Autism on Sunday May 15th. In 30 starts at the Monster Mile he has 14 top-10 and five top-five finishes including a win last season.
