Despite having to make his way down pit road mid-race, Jade Franklin was about to fight back for a top-10 finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Franklin started off the night solidly, finishing third in his heat and sixth in the Fast Qualifier’s Dash.
The teenager started the 30-lap feature in the 13th position, looking to make his charge to the front early. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as he hoped in the first few laps with the traffic as he’d drop back to the 16th spot by Lap 5.
Things continued to get worse as contact was made, resulting in a right front flat tire. Fortunately, a caution flew for an incident on-track, allowing Franklin to make his way down pit road under caution to get the tire changed.
Restarting from the tail of the field, he began to make up ground immediately, running 19th at Lap 10 when the caution flew once again. He’d avoid a spin by following the restart to move up another couple spots.
As the laps ticked away, he continued to avoid incidents and make passes, moving up to ninth with seven laps to go. From there on, he was able to hold on to cross the finish line with his third top-10 in three races this season.
