BRIGHTON, Ont. – June 14, 2016 – Brighton Speedway’s 2016 season continues when the Southern Ontario Sprints return for their second visit of the season on Vanderlaan Building Products and Belleville Nissan night on June 18, 2016. The race marks round three of the 2016 tour, also presented by Sanderson’s Tire and Automotive.
The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and Bill’s John Comp 4s are also on the schedule. Adult admission is just $20 and a Family Pass is $55. Spectator gates open at 5:30pm before a 7:00pm start time.
Entering Saturday’s Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) race, a trio of Turners sit atop the standings. Caistor Centre’s Jamie and Ryan Turner sit first and second-respectively in the championship standings with Cory Tuner sitting third. Sprint Car rookies Dylan Westbrook and Alex Hill currently complete the current top-five.
In Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model division, the points race is as tight as ever with just 50 points separating the top-five drivers. Brandon Mowat is the current point leader by just five points over Steve Baldwin and Charlie Sandercock, who sit tied for second. Phil Potts sits fourth, 20 points off the lead with Adam Turner completing the top-five. Those five drivers have combined for 24 top-five finishes in 30 starts so far this season.
The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds have seen four different winners in five races this season and two consecutive last lap passes for a win. Curtis King won his first race of the season last Saturday night and currently sits sixth in the standings. Andrew Hennessy sits atop the division with a 35-point cushion over Dan Ferguson. Kraig Handley, Derrick Greig and Doug O’Blenis complete the current top-five.
The Brighton Automotive Pro Stock will battle for 25 laps again this week in round two of the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown. Doug Anderson won the opening race of the Triple Crown on May 21 and is also the division’s most recent winner. Justin Ramsay is the current division point leader while Anderson sits tied for second with Wade Purchase. Brandon Murrell and Jonah Mutton round out the top-five.
The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s saw a first-time season winner last Saturday when Josh Read went to victory lane. The Trenton, Ont. native held off a surging Adam Flieler for the victory boosting him to within 30 markers of point leader Tyler French. Flieler sits third in the standings ahead of Matthew Moore and Peter Moore.
