It seems with each passing week, new faces emerge at the front of the Sunset Speedway field. That’s only means one thing – the fans are guaranteed to be delivered a top-notch show. As we head into the fifth night of the season, on a Friday night might I add, here are the five latest drivers to keep an eye on.
Dan Archibald
Dan Archibald has been quick over the years, sighting strong runs and victories from the past two seasons. There’s the x-factor with him though – staying out of trouble. It seems he finds himself mixed up with a driver or two at some point over the year, creating controversy which takes away from performance.
Though entering this year with a new car under his belt, there was a question whether those ways would change. So far, it’s yet to be said for certain as he had a run-in with Johnny Morrison, followed by contact in his heat on two different occasions last Saturday night.
That being said, he proved he was quickest when it mattered the most. He has impressed so far this month, posting a runner-up and a win in the past two weeks. Last week you could say he had the fans on their feet following a thrilling battle with Matt Bentley. If these types of runs continue, look for Archibald to climb the points standings.
Ryan Semple proved last year that he could be quick on a weekly basis, consistently at that, with 10 top-five finishes in the 14 races. He also proved he has his car working how he wants it, scoring the feature victory on August 29.
So far this year, though, things haven’t gone as hoped with only two top-10 finishes in the first four races this year, including a DNS for this past Saturday due to a mechanical issue. Following those frustrations, Semple will certainly be hoping to make his return to victory lane very soon.
After winning the Mighty Mini Championship last year, Treyten Lapcevich maked the move up to the Super Stock division this season. Lapcevich proved last year that he can adapt to a new car quickly as he won that championship and multiple races in what was first year in a full-size stock car.
So far this year, you could say he is adapting quite quickly with only one finish outside of the top-10 so far this season, while leading the first half of last Saturday night’s feature. With a b-main win under his belt already, it’s only a matter of time before the youngster calls himself a feature race winner.
Stan Coe is one of the guys you got to watch as he can strike when you least expect it. He’s the quiet guy, biding his time and scoring the solid finishes, without striking anyone by surprise.
He surprised last year with a feature victory mid-season, so don’t be surprised if it happens again. He’s off to a solid start this year, as well, entering this weekend on the heels of three straight top-five finishes.
Nic Troback
Looking at last year’s statistics, Nic Troback was someone left off of most people’s radars entering this season. Though four weeks in the year, he’s caught everyone’s attention.
The driver of the No. 73 Super Stock has two heat wins and a Fast Qualifier’s Dash win under his belt in the first four weeks this year to go with a pair of top-10s. He’ll be looking to return to the top-10 on Friday night after posting a 20th place finish last Saturday.
