After going almost two full seasons without a victory, Glenn Watson is back in victory lane as the four-time series champion picked up the win on Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway.
The night started off with J.R. Fitzpatrick winning the first heat ahead of Roy Passer and Gary Passer, followed by Glenn Watson winning the second heat ahead of Kelly Balson and John Cadman. Gary Passer won the third heat ahead of Balson and Charlie Gallant, while Cadman won the final heat ahead of Watson and Rick Spencer-Walt.
Come feature time, it’d be John Cadman and J.R. Fitzpatrick leading the field to green. For the entire 50 laps, though, the fans were delivered excitement throughout the field with side-by-side battles for position, and unfortunately some incidents throughout the night resulting in some competitors’ nights ending early.
While Fitzpatrick led early, it was Watson finding his way to the front in the early stages, taking the lead and dominating the rest of the way en route to his first win of the season. Even though it marks the first win of the season, Watson has been solid this year as he entered the OSCAAR Race for the Cup with four top-fives on the season.
Fitzpatrick finished second, which marks his seventh podium finish of 2016 following a pair of wins earlier this season. Gary Passer rounded out the podium, marking his best finish of the year and fourth top-five.
Watson, Fitzpatrick and Passer entered the weekend as three of the six drivers vying for the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model Championship, looking to move forward to the final round, which takes place as part of Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic. Their podium finishes enable them to move forward, and whoever finishes the highest in the classic 50-lap feature will be crowned the series champion.
On the flip side, unfortunately the championship dreams end for Roy Passer, Charlie Gallant and Tyler Hawn as they are now eliminated.
Roy Passer finished fourth at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday night, marking his seventh top-five of 2016. Charlie Gallant rounded out the top-five for his third top-five of 2016.
Brian McLean finished sixth in his first start of the season, followed by Mike Hillier, Craig Stevenson, Tyler Hawn and John Cadman. Kelly Balson finished 11th, followed by Jim Bowman, Rick Spencer-Walt and Dario Capirchio.
The OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model drivers will now focus their attention to the season finale at Peterborough Speedway in October. A select group of drivers will be at Full Throttle Motor Speedway this weekend to put on an exhibition race for the fans.
