After a successful attempt at this year’s Daytona 500 where D.J. Kennington became the first Canadian driver to qualify for the Great American Race since the 1980s, Kennington and Gaunt Brothers Racing will make another foray in NASCAR during this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Kennington will be sponsored by Spectra Premium and longtime supporter Castrol Canada for the event.
“We are pleased to have DJ back with us at GBR,” said Gaunt. “Our successful entry together in the Daytona 500 established a relationship that we are honored to continue. Our partners for the event, Castrol Canada and Spectra Premium, both have Canadian roots, so having DJ drive the Castrol Spectra Premium Toyota Tundra makes for an exciting trip to our home province.”
Kennington, a two-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion, is the third full-time Pinty’s Series driver to announce their intention to compete in the Truck race this weekend. He joins Gary Klutt, who will drive for Premium Motorsports and Jason Hathaway, who will make his series debut competing in the No. 66 for Bolen Motorsports.
“This is a tremendous opportunity given to me by GBR to compete for a win in a talented division,” said Kennington. “This track has been good to me in the past, and Castrol was there for all three wins. I’m thrilled they’re along for the ride again.”
