HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Danica Patrick announced on Friday that she will no longer drive full time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series following Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Her contract with Stewart-Haas Racing ends at the end of this season and with the limited opportunities in the Cup series, there wasn’t much to choose from.
“This is my last season as a full-time driver,” Patrick said in the media center before breaking into tears.
Though she will not run full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, She will compete in next years Daytona 500 along with making her return to the Verizon IndyCar Series in the 102nd Indianapolis 500. After both of those races take the checkered flag, Patrick plans to hang up the helmet.
Patrick will make start 190 on Sunday in the Ford EcoBoost 400. In her six-year career in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, she has tallied seven top-10’s and one career pole.
