Much of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season has been dominated by Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch. So far in 2018, the two have combined for seven wins and have led 1,239 laps in Cup competition.
Several times through the 1990s, we had the Dale and Dale—Earnhardt battling Jarrett.
This year, there’s been a lot of Harvick vs Busch. Statistically, over the past six events at Kansas Speedway, Harvick leads all active Cup drivers. He has an average starting position of 9.5 and finishing position of 5.3. He has one victory over those six events with four total top fives and a worst finish of 16th in the fall of 2015. Kyle Busch falls third among all active drivers with one win also and five out of five top ten finishes (he missed the spring race in 2015 due to injury).
Though while Harvick and Busch may be the favorites, there are several who could spoil the party.
Martin Truex, Jr. is second among all active drivers over the past six events, winning both races at Kansas in 2017. He will be looking for his second win on the season after some adversity over the past five races, where he crashed out of three of those events. Truex Jr. rebounded last week at Dover with a solid fourth place effort.
Others who are statistically in the top 10 over the past six Kansas races are Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Blaney, and Joey Logano. Of those, only Logano has a win in 2018. Kenseth is making his return to the circuit in the No. 6 Roush-Fenway Ford, replacing Trevor Bayne for the next five weekends.
The KC Masterpiece 400 will roll off at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening on Fox Sports 1.
