Chase Elliott crossed the finish line first at the Snowball Derby – though he would get disqualified in tech.
As a result, Erik Jones won the event for the second straight year in a row at 5 Flags Speedway in Pennscola, Florida. Last year he won it for his family-backed team; this year he won it for Kyle Busch Motorsports behind the wheel of the No. 51 Phoenix Construction late model.
Elliott was DQ’d as a result of using tungsten instead of lead to add weight to his late model. The tungsten has been out-lawed in the rulebook to keep costs down as a chunk of tungsten costs $1500 versus lead that cost less than $100. The rule is enforced because 35lbs of Tungsten is smaller than 35lbs of lead, which allows you to better place it.
