Daniel Suarez scores New Smyrna Pro East win barely over Hayley

Monterry, Mexico native Daniel Suarez held off Canadian Cameron Hayley in a door-to-door battle to the checkered flag in the New Smyrna 150 presented by JEGS at New Smyrna Speedway for his second career win. Suarez took the win, only 0.083 seconds ahead of Hayley.

The 22-year-old is one of the drivers that is part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program. Surez is also a member of the NASCAR Next program that spotlights young, talented drivers.

For Rev Racing, it marks their 13th win in the series since debuting in 2010.

Hayley would finish second after winning the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Brewing Company in his first start with Turner-Scott Motorsports this year. Hayley ran the full K&N Pro Series West schedule last year, finishing in the top five in points. Hayley’s 16 year old teammate Brandon Jones finished third after leading a race high 34 laps.

Ben Rhodes and Lee Pulliam rounded out the top five. It was the series’ debut for Pulliam, the two-time defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champion.

Kenzie Ruston finished sixth, followed by Gray Gaulding, Mackena Bell, Brandon Gdovic and rookie Kaz Grala.

The next race for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will on Tuesday as part of the UNOH Battle At The Beach Tuesday on the backstretch at Daytona International Speedway.
