Ben Kennedy wins pole for Truck race as qualifying is rained out

Richard Childress Racing rookie Austin Dillon won the pole for the Sprint Cup Series Daytona 500. Turner-Scott Motorsports rookie Dylan Kwasniewski won the pole for the Nationwide Series DRIVE4COPD 300 in the rain-shortened qualfying session.

Ben Kennedy kept the rookie trend going as he will lead the Camping World Truck Series to the green flag of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 later tonight at Daytona International Speedway. Kennedy is the great grandson of NASCAR’s founder Bill France Sr.

Due to a consistent rain throughout the late afternoon/early evening, NASCAR was forced to cancel qualifying. As a result, the truck series field was set by the first practice speeds.

Just like they did in the Nationwide Series, Turner-Scott Motorsports will have the front row for themselves with Kennedy and Ron Hornaday. Hornaday is running a part-time schedule this year for TSM.

Brad Keselowski Racing driver Ryan Blaney will start third, followed by defending champion Matt Crafton and Joey Coulter. Coulter makes the move from Kyle Busch Motorsports to Gallagher Racing; Gallagher Racing is using equipment bought from Richard Childress Racing.

John Wes Townley will start sixth, followed by Kyle Busch, Ross Chastain, Johnny Sauter and rookie Tyler Reddick. Reddick will be running for BKR this year.

Unfortunately, Charles Lewandoski and Todd Peck will not make the field for the race tonight.

NASCAR has scheduled the green flag for 7:33 p.m. EST, though it may be delayed due to weather.
