From Spira Racing – Billy headed to Sauble Speedway, Jake and Samantha went to Sunset and Scott to Flamboro Speedway for their fan appreciation night and autograph session.
Flamboro: Scott had his car dialed in from previous few weeks at the track and he would go throughout the night without the usual adjustments. For the first heat race Scott started 5th and moved into the lead by lap five where he held off the #71 for the win. In the second heat Scott started 7th out of 8 cars, and slowly worked his way up through the field to finish 4th. Since winning the feature the week before, Scott had to start at the back of the field in 17th. After taking his time picking cars off one by one, the #44 moved into 7th by lap 13 when the caution came out for the #03, #2, and #24 who got together. After a lengthy cleanup, Scott started to move forward and was soon 4th behind the #26 car. With one lap to go, Scott got into the back of the #26 making them both lose control slightly, however Scott backed off to save both cars from wrecking and ended up finishing 4th.
Sauble: Billy’s #86 started off real loose and after a major combination of changes, spent the next two practice sessions fighting a push condition. The #86 started 2nd in the first heat race behind the #36 who was timed as the fastest car on the track during the practice sessions. Billy would remain behind him throughout the race to finish where he started in 2nd. In the 2nd heat race, Billy started 7th with the #36 behind him and as they rounded turn four for the 2nd lap, the #36 turned the #6 car who almost saved it, however drifted up the track sideways and collected two cars in the process.
After a red flag to clear the three badly damaged cars off the track, Billy quickly made his way to the front for the win. Anticipating that the car would tighten up for the feature, the crew set the car up a little on the loose side to take the green flag, where Billy started 4th with the #36 behind him. After running the first ten laps with the #36 on his tail and the car running loose, the looseness faded and the #86 started to handle like a dream. The second half of the race saw Billy slowly open up a gap on the #36 to finish with the win by six car lengths.
Sunset: Jake started his heat race in 2nd and finished 3rd as Samantha started 7th in hers, moved up to 5th at the half way point and then fought her way through some traffic to finish 4th. Both Sam and Jake entered the dash for cash with Jake starting 7th and Samantha 10th. At the half way point in the 10 lap race, Samantha moved by Jake into 6th as Jake fell back to 8th. At the finish line, it was Samantha that gained five positions to finish 5th, and Jake lost two from his starting position to finish 9th. Jake started the feature in 2nd as Samantha started 8th in a full field of cars. The caution arrived on the 5th lap for the #9 who spun in turn two and Samantha was now in 7th and Jake was right behind her in 8th. On the 15th lap, Samantha continued to move forward as she was up to 6th and Jake continued to fall back as he was now in 11th. As the leaders got together in the final laps, Samantha would gain those two positions to finish 4th and Jake remained 11th at the checkered flag.
Next up for the Spira Team will see Billy head to Delaware Speedway for the Open 4-Cylinder Event on Friday June 13th and then he will join Jake and Samantha at Sunset Speedway on Saturday June 14th.
