Jordan Latimer scores first career Thunder Car Feature Victory at Barrie Speedway

For the first time in his young career, Jordan Latimer pulled into feature victory lane as he picked up his first career Triple Sick Skins Thunder Car Feature victory on Mobile 1 night at Barrie Speedway.

Latimer started off the night in victory lane by winning the first heat ahead of Luke Gignac, Adam Misner, Bryan Penny, Johnny Morrison and Jim Morrison.

The second heat didn’t go smoothly as Jason Elliott would make contact with Desi Walt on lap seven, causing her to spin. Then on the restart, race leader Robbie Sikes would go around in turn two as the rear-end let go on his car. Rick Walt, who was subbing for Jim Belesky, picked up the victory ahead of Shawn Goggins, Elliott, Desi Walt and Edward Cole.

Luke Gignac won the third heat ahead of Penny, Latimer, Misener, Johnny Morrison and Jim Morrison.

Desi Walt won the final heat ahead of Rick Walt, Elliott, Goggins, Sikes and Cole.

When it came time for the feature, Jim Morrison would start the No. 3 Simcoe Auto Recyclers, Casper Enterprise, Classic Turner Repairs and AMFM Auto Body Chrysler 300 on pole ahead of Jordan Latimer, Adam Misener, Robbie Sikes, Shawn Goggins, Desi Walt, Bryan Penny, Jason Elliott, Luke Gignac, Rick Walt, Edward Cole and Johnny Morrison.

Rookies Jim Morrison and Jordan Latimer would battle side-by-side for the lead on the drop of the green, with Latimer completing the pass on the outside to put the No. 10 KICX 106, The Dock 104.1, Creechers Design, T+C Construction, AC Electric, Progressive Waste Solutions, Get Jack Get ReMax, Tax Smart, Shepherd Trucking, Cookstown Auto Center Ltd. and Krueger Electrical Services Monte Carlo out front. The third rookie in the picture, Misener, then got alongside Morrison for second, completing the pass on lap five. Morrison would start the fall back as Goggins grabbed third on lap seven while Gignac grabbed fourth on lap eight.

Rick Walt would be the next driver to make the move on Morrison for a spot, however it wouldn’t go well as contact would be made, sending Walt for a spin. This wasn’t the first incident that Morrison has found himself in this year and as a result, officials would give him the black flag for rough driving. So with 20 laps to go, Latimer restarted the leader ahead of Misener, Goggins, Gignac, Penny, Elliott, Johnny Morrison, Sikes, Desi Walt, Cole and Rick Walt.

Rookies Latimer and Misener would battle side-by-side for the lead on the restart, with Latimer holding serve. Misener then fell victim to some of the experienced drivers, as Goggins was able to grab second on lap 12 and bring Gignac with him in the laps that followed. Misener settled in to fourth while Elliott and Johnny Morrison battled for fifth. Elliott would grab the spot at lap 15, with Walt grabbing sixth from Morrison at lap 16. Walt then got alongside Elliott for fifth with 10 laps to go, completing the pass a lap later.

At the front of the field, it was all Jordan Latimer as he would cruise to the victory ahead of Luke Gignac, who made the pass on Shawn Goggins for second with six to go. Rick Walt finished fourth after passing Adam Misener with two laps to go. Jason Elliott finished sixth followed by Desi Walt, Johnny Morrison, Robbie Sikes and Edward Cole.
